Mother who successfully challenged a Care Order faces £20,000 costs bill

In a recent case before the Court of Appeal, it was concluded that Local Authorities should not have to cover legal aid deficiencies. Further details of the case can be found in the link at the end of this article however, in essence, a Mother sought to challenge a placement order which was allowed by the Court of Appeal. The Mother sought her appeal costs however the Court concluded that “it is not possible to say that the local authority has been unreasonable in defending the judge’s decision, it being a decision that was in line with all professional advice and was supported by the children’s guardian”.
